Gathering Storm Escalation tournament report!

Hey y'all! I spent some time editing up a video for this one, so plastering that here!

Angmar vs Erebor Reclaimed. Capture and Control 400 points

Andrew and I are gearing up for a cool escalation tournament that starts at 400, goes to 650, and ends at 800 with 2 games at each level. One minor twist is that every model in the lower points must be represented at the higher points levels which leads to some interesting list building. Andrew and I tested our 400 pointers to see what we thought!

Angmar vs the Last Alliance. 800 Points in Reconoitter.

Well, it's that time again where spooky Angmar orcs go from door to door asking for elven treats. I've been wanting to really dig into Angmar for a while and andrew obliged by running the Last Alliance list he's been tuning for some time. We rolled for scenario and got Reconnoiter. Over all, that feels like it favors Angmar a bit more, but anything is possible in the great game of MESBG!

Nazgul of Angmar

For how often Mordor and Angmar see the tabletop on this blog, it felt like a crime not having any of the Nazgul beyond the Witch King. So, I decided to pick up the best looking (in my opinion) Nazgul pack and remedy that.

Angmar vs Rohan & Gondor in Hold Ground

Having recently completed a fresh Gulavhar proxy , we were excited to see him back on the table! So, Andrew noodled out a Rohan Gondor alliance, and I got together a nasty Angmar list and we saw it through on the table. We used the veto system (quick side note- I think I am over the veto system...) and rolled up Capture and Control (vetoed by Andrew), Storm the Camp (vetoed by me), and Hold Ground.

Gulavhar Proxy Part 2: Twolvhar.

You know, I really love the look of my original Gulavhar proxy . Unfortunately, however, it's just far too small compared to the actual (impossible to find right now!) original. So, enter Davale Games yet again!

Theodred's Guard vs Angmar in Fog of War. 700 points.

Andrew and I wanted to see some more Angmar on the board- but chose to leave Gulavhar at home . Having just seen Theodred's Guard do its thing against Mordor , I was pretty nervous that their throwing spears would just wreck my regular orcs!

Warg Riders on the Storm

Just a quick post today highlighting some Warg Riders! Definitely not my best work, but I am often comforted with the thought that "done" is better than "in progress", so I'll take it. Besides, I was on a bit of a time crunch as Andrew wanted to incorporate some Warg Riders in his final Mordor list for the Escalation tournament finale.

Rivendell vs Angmar in Breakthrough. 620 points.

Dear readers, today I have a doozy for you! Hot on the heels of our last Rivendell vs Mordor game, Andrew and I ran it back with Rivendell vs Angmar; both of us trying out some newer models and approaches. I wanted a Rivendell Knight focused list and Andrew wanted a heavy monster presence. I think this made for a heck of a great game! We rolled up "Breakthrough" for the scenario.

Orctober Part 2: Orcs of Mordor

Last time I posted the heroes of Mordor ... so today it's time to look at the rank and file.

The Grey Company vs Angmar in Divide and Conquer. 650 points.

I was excited to see the Grey Company on the board again! They're fun to play; if a little tedious tracking their resource expenditures. My last few games as Angmar showed me just how nasty that list is; but I was really excited to face them across the field of battle today as Andrew gave them a spin for the first time.

Theodred's Guard vs Angmar Part 2: 650 point Hold Ground

After our first round , we were eager to see Theodred get another shot at Angmar. Gulhavar is just gross, and we want to try to figure that puzzle out! We rolled for scenario and came up with Hold Ground; which I think was a good test of both lists.

Theodred's Guard vs Angmar 650 in Clash by Moonlight

With my recently completed Gulavhar proxy , and  Grimbold and Theodred , we were excited to see some new models on the field! So Andrew and I rolled up a scenario (we decided not to do any vetoing this time), and came up with Clash by Moonlight. VERY good for throwing spears... but Gulhavar is also happy to slay the Rohan heroes.

Gulavhar, Terror of Arnor (sort of...)

I've been working on some Angmar spookies for a little while, and really felt like a Gulavhar was needed to bring the whole thing together. The actual Gulavhar is both difficult to find and... honestly? I think it's ugly. I found another blog where someone converted a Varghulf Courtier from AoS into Gulahvar and really liked the look so I stole the idea.

The Witch King of Angmar

In rode the Lord of the Nazgûl. A great black shape against the fires beyond he loomed up, grown to a vast menace of despair. In rode the Lord of the Nazgûl, under the archway that no enemy ever yet had passed, and all fled before his face.

The Slap Chop Troll Boy

If you've been keeping your eyes on various painting chats around the internet, a new dark lord has emerged. One painting technique to rule them all, with the nefarious moniker "Slap Chop." If you want to skip YouTube videos targeting the 10 minute mark to chase your advertising bucks, I can sum it up for you quickly. (Though the video is good- just poking some fun)

Into the Wilds: Wargs and Rocks

Just a quick hobby update today! I'm working my way through some 3D printed rocks just to have some fun, easy scatter terrain. I found these on Thingiverse for free and they're just perfect for wargaming. To paint them I sprayed cheapo Grey. Then I randomly washed a few spots with GW washes- yellow, green, brown, and a spot of red here and there. Next came a heavy light grey drybrush over that followed by another white drybrush. Then I just added some static grass and tufts and... done.
